POV - You’re a Software Engineer at Stack Builders, Spain (Part 1)

In this first part of my blog post about my experience working at Stack Builders in Spain as a software developer, I explain who I am and what it was like to join Stack Builders in the first place.

Hi everyone! I'm David Mazarro, a software developer at Stack Builders and a functional programming enthusiast. I graduated in Mathematics and Computer Science and I've always been passionate about both.

While career-wise I'm more oriented towards CS and software development, I often try to look at things from a mathematical perspective. That's in part why I like functional programming so much; it tries to look at software development with a simpler, more linear way of reasoning by composing complex programs using simpler functions. I don't want to digress too much here, though!

Apart from that, my hobbies mostly consist of playing video games, music, and cooking! 🍽

How was joining Stack Builders?

I became aware of the company in November, 2021, through a friend who underwent the selection process back then. He mentioned that he was originally contacted by Stack Builders via GitHub. He explained to me that Stack Builders was in the process of opening a new office in Spain, and how it was already a well-established company in Ecuador with US, UK, and Australian clients. At that time I was satisfied with my previous job, but the offering Stack Builders made really caught my attention, so I decided to give the hiring process a try.

Their selection process is definitely the best I've had a chance to participate in up until now! The tests/exercises were both fair regarding the required completion time and the level of difficulty. It was also nice to see that soft skills were valued as much as the technical solution that I provided. From the beginning of the hiring process I felt wholly supported, and the treatment I received by the person in charge of my process (thanks a lot, Andrea!) was close and attentive.

In the end, I received a job offer and I accepted immediately knowing that it was the right decision, since I chose to work with a team of people who share the same values and attitude as the people involved in my hiring process.

I've been with Stack Builders for 9 months now and I have no regrets. The experience has been amazing so far 🙌. If you find yourself looking to work with a supportive team and have opportunities to learn new languages and technologies, check out our job post!

Stay tuned for the next blog post where I'll be detailing what a typical day looks like as a software developer with the Stack Builders Spain team!
